The Supreme Court on Monday expressed anger over non-regularisation of properties in Bani Gala despite expiry of the 10-day deadline set to resolve the matter.
“A leader has to set an example,” an apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar upheld, while ordering Prime Minister Imran Khan to get his residence regularised by the evening.
“We gave 10 days time … why has no progress been made?” the chief justice asked, while hearing a case regarding encroachments and environmental degradation in Bani Gala. At this, Additional Attorney General Nayyar Rizvi said, “The interior secretary has summoned a meeting of the regularisation committee formed on the top court’s orders. Kindly give us 10 more days.” However, Justice Nisar said, “We will not even give one more day.” The additional attorney general then informed the court that the committee meeting is already underway. “Give us till 3pm,” he urged the court.
The bench then directed that it be informed regarding the outcome of the meeting by night. The chief justice also warned that the prime minister will be summoned in the case if regularisation fee is not paid.
The hearing of the case was later adjourned till Tuesday (today).
