The opposition parties on Thursday criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for its ‘incompetence’ during the first 100 days in power. “We were busy taking U-turns,” Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari mocked at the government’s first 100 days performance in a tweet.
Speaking to media, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Ahsan Iqbal said it appeared as if the government had no concrete homework and economic vision. “They go to China and Malaysia asking them how to overcome corruption,” he said. “The corruption they accuse us of gave 12,000 MWs of electricity to the country,” he added.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq said the first 100 days of the government were the days of disappointment. “The nation got nothing in these 100 days except for inflation, debts and altercation,” he said. “We will appreciate if the government performs a good job in future.”
Criticising the government over peace overtures to India, Haq said there was no good of going overboard in trying to achieve cordial relations with New Delhi without resolution of Kashmir issue. He said his party was also not satisfied with the working of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). “436 individuals named in Panama leaks are roaming around freely,” he said.
The JI chief also slammed the government for its failure to nab the murderers of Maulana SamiulHaq.
PPP leader and senator Sherry Rehman said that first 100 days could be best described as ‘a bonfire of vanities’. She added that the government is yet to escape confrontation politics of the past, adding that good governance requires building bipartisanship confidence. She claimed that the nation hoped they would be apprised on the initiatives to be rolled out in the near future, however only more PTI rhetoric was given by Imran Khan.
PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb lambasted the prime minister for his 100-day speech, saying, “Imran should be given a medal for lying after this speech.” She went on to say that instead of giving the performance of the government till now, the future course of action was shared with the masses.
