KARACHI – Ashfaq Mangi, a former member of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), on Monday joined the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), formed by former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal.
Mangi was warmly greeted by PSP leaders Raza Haroon and Anees Qaimkhani as he reached Kamal’s house to formally announce his decision to join the newly-formed party. He is the fourth MQM’s lawmaker to have joined Kamal’s party after Dr Saghir Ahmed, Iftikhar Alam and Bilquis Mukhtar.
“I welcome Ashfaq Mangi and members of Sindh organising committee in our party,” Kamal told reporters. “We have not come here to grab power. We are here to end the politics of hatred and spread love, harmony and brotherhood,” he said. He said that he won’t fully respond to criticism of his opponent due to time constraints.
He said that thousands of MQM’s wickets have been fallen over the last few days. He said that his party’s mission was to eradicate poverty and ignorance. He said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain should show some moral courage and tell the truth to his community about his connections with Indian spy agency. “Whatever you (Altaf) have told Scotland Yard, you should also share it with your workers,” he said.
